Her new title is Program Coordinator for Enrichment, and her hours are 8-4 Monday through Friday, August through May. Pam Roberson also has a new title—Program Coordinator for Instruction. Help us congratulate Pam and Heidi and thank them for the great work they do!

Fall Registration continues! Please refer to your confirmation e-mail and note the “class status” for the courses for which you registered (registered, registered not paid, waitlist). As a reminder, anyone showing a “registered not paid” status, you are registered for the course.  (You may have been waitlisted for a course and we have a check we cannot deposit until you get into the course or you are mailing us payment.)  For those of you that show a “waitlist” status, we are reviewing the waitlisted classes and are opening up spots as we can. You will receive a call if there is an opening for you in the class.

Join us for Back to OLLI on Thursday, Sept. 10, 3-4:30 in Manly Lobby at the Herring Center. New member Orientation begins at 2:30 p.m.   You may purchase lanyards and OLLI mugs, pick up your name tag and parking sticker, meet and reunite with your OLLI friends, and enjoy refreshments. Don’t miss the fun!

Check out this article on the Duke Endowment webpage about Furman President Elizabeth Davis. You’ll see a couple of mentions of your most favorite learning in retirement program.

What’s GOING ON at Furman University?

Furman students are looking for volunteers for a class project!  Students enrolled in an Adulthood and Aging course are looking to meet with OLLI members for informal conversations a few times during the semester.  The conversations will touch on topics such as, life histories, physical and health related changes, cognitive change, social relationships, caregiving and/or end of life issues.   If you are interested in volunteering to meet with a student during the semester, please contact Dr. Michelle Horhota at 864-294-3167.

What’s GOING ON in and around Greenville?

Reading Tutors Wanted – OLLI members have been volunteering as reading tutors at a Travelers Rest elementary school.  Tutored students improved reading proficiency to a greater extent than untutored ones.  To volunteer, or for more information, contact Roger Wheeler at 864-895-6097.

Circles, a Greenville County community initiative using a nationally recognized, proven model to help families move out of poverty by building relationships across socio-economic boundaries, needs volunteers. Circle Allies are VOLUNTEERS who are trained and want to be in a supportive, intentional, befriending relationship with an individual or family (Circle Leader) that is committed to getting out (and staying out) of poverty. Circles will have an amazing and positive impact on our community (and on you) as we help families emerge from poverty. For more information about Circles Greenville County and how you can volunteer, contact Bruce Forbes at SHARE at 864-527-8990.  For more information about the Circles model, go to www.CirclesUSA.org.

The Greenville Chorale, conducted by Dr. Bingham Vick, Jr., announces the 2015-16 concert season. The Chorale will ring in the holiday season with Christmas with the Chorale, featuring season favorites along with the always-popular sing-along. The Chorale is honored to have the support of Sarah and Gordon Herring with the newly named Herring Chamber Ensemble featuring sacred and secular masterworks. The Chorale will offer two performances of our spring concert, A Great Sacred Song Fest. This concert will feature great sacred masterworks by Brahms, Beethoven, Gawthrop, Wilberg, Moses Hogan, and Dan Forrest. For tickets or more information, call 864-467-3000.
