MedEx Week 1

image1-2After having completed my first week at the MedEx Academy of 2015, I think that it would only be appropriate that I let you in on what we have been up to! So far, we’ve done lots of cool things, like touring the USC School of Medicine in Greenville, learning about many different healthcare career fields- such as medical librarian and certified medical translator- as well as having been introduced by Dr. Banisaukas (of Furman University) to what we should be doing as undergrads to prepare for medical school applications. We have also learned an incredible amount about the ethical issues surrounding medicine and research. So far, Dr. Carmela Epright (also from Furman) has spent the first three hours of each day leading us in discussions as well as giving lectures about medical situations where medical ethics (and lack of medical ethics) were involved, such as the Nazi experiments and the Tuskegee experiments. The topic of medical ethics has really peaked my interests and, since I have never delved deep into medical ethics before, I can’t wait to learn more! That said, with several more weeks left of MedEx, I am sure that there is much more to be learned and experienced, and I can’t wait to share it with you! Feel free to check out our hash tag #MedExAcademy2015 on Instagram to follow along on our journey!
