The Royal Inauguration

President Davis had her Inauguration ceremony this past Thursday, and being present at the event made me feel like royalty.

The weather was gloomy, and we all sloshed through puddles and dodged the buckets of water dumping out of the sky to get to the ceremony. With this atmosphere, I deemed the catchphrase of the day, “President Davis ‘reigns'”. Based on the regalness of the ceremony [and weather], I think it appropriate.

Everything about the ceremony was wonderful. One of the most memorable moments was when the professors processed into the auditorium. They looked regal dressed in their robes. They also looked so happy and truly proud to be professors at Furman. As they came in, the orchestra played, and everyone stood and watched in awe. I had many a professor stop in line and wave at me or at their other students. The connection professors have with students is special at Furman, and for that I am thankful.

Afterwards there was a great reception and of course, photos with President Davis. We are very excited to officially have President Davis inaugurated into the Furman family. She is such a presence and encouraging leader, and I can’t wait to see how Furman thrives these next many years!
