The Weather

I understand that weather is one of those topics which people discuss when they have nothing else to say. I have things to say, but I also just really want to mention the weather. The weather has been stellar recently, and it has led to fun outdoor activities.

Some of my favorite memories at Furman come from my adventures to Pretty Place in Cleveland, SC. A few weekends ago, my friend Kate and I drove to Pretty Place before the sun rose. Our car ride was filled with music by Ben Rector, Drew Holcomb, and Needtobreathe as we chatted and caught up on life. I, just back from Brussels, was excited to share my stories. Kate, now abroad in South Africa, was excited to share her experiences of last semester and thoughts on her adventures to come. Long car rides and long chats are a wonderful way to escape from the everyday routine.

Not only did we get a car ride, but we got the most beautiful sunrise. The sun lifted over the mountains while the pinks and reds spilled over the land. The peace, quiet, and obviously, the view, brought a great start to the day. Pretty Place is a “must see” attraction for all of you future Paladins! Our final stop was Tommy’s Ham House. This is another great attraction and is fortunately just a few minutes from downtown Greenville. Tommy’s (as we call it) is a cafeteria style diner with lots of old Furman folk, Furman students, and community members. There are friendly waiters and waitresses who make the experience great. The sweet potato pancake is a personal favorite if you’re looking for a recommendation.

Making use of the Swamp Rabbit Trail is another one of my favorite things to do when the weather is warm. This past weekend brought some sunshine, and I was also able to go on a great run down the Swamp Rabbit Trail. From Furman, this trail runs about 6 miles to downtown Greenville and about 4 miles towards Traveler’s Rest. I enjoyed my run and then proceeded to come home to my [junior perk] North Village apartment, where I laid on my porch for a significant amount of time. I loved living in the dorms my freshman and sophomore years, but wow, a personal porch with sunshine. It’s the little things.

And now, I am going to continue working on internship applications after a great night at the Heller Service Corps Valentine’s Dance for (Special Needs) Exceptional Adults. One of my favorite nights of the year is again, complete. To continue the trend of this post, you should probably put this dance on your Furman bucket list as well.

I’d love to hear from you! Ask me questions, say hello, send me a joke?! I’ll reply!
