Okay, I apologize for being so predictable. BUT COME ON! We’re talking about the HUNGER GAMES here!
And that pretty much summarizes my November. I have been anticipating this movie and I was so excited to have been able to go watch it with my friends last Wednesday. One of the perks of being a Furman student is you get movie tickets as cheap as $1 from FUSAB (Furman University Students’ Activities Board). WOOT WOOT!

One of the many skills that you acquire as a Furman student is that amidst the endless sea of homework and classes, you learn to find the time to watch a movie…on a…weekday. I shudder a little when I think about it again. You see, going out to watch a movie on a weekday means putting a lot at stake – the next day’s readings, your homework (especially since I always do it the night before) and the most important of all, your sleep (you don’t want to take chances with this one).

Okay, I am probably being too dramatic. But really, it does feel like a major achievement when you can watch a movie late at night, get back at 2 in the morning, and still make it to your classes the next day without dozing off.
Last week was pretty much that – me learning to balance the late-night-social-life-demands (yes, socialization can appear pretty demanding in college) and academics.

#1. ICP (International Connection Program) Thanksgiving Dinner:

ICP is a program propounded by Furman University to provide all incoming International freshmen with a mentor. This is to help accommodate International Students and to help them transform better to life in America, in general.
Last week, I attended the ICP Thanksgiving dinner with my amazing mentor, Yolanda, and it was a great experience! We learnt about the tradition of Thanksgiving. Most of all, we got to eat homemade food that the faculty members had cooked!

Here is the picture from the dinner. Pardon my poor photography skills. I was trying to be as discreet as possible.

#2. Meet the SOCON 2013 CHAMPIONS!

We are proud to announce the SOCON 2013 CHAMPIONS!

While I could only attend the football game for the first quarter, I was elated to know that Furman won and emerged as the SOCON Champion!
Plus, not like I would have understood much had I stayed.

PS. This is my favorite part (and the only one I understand) – when the Furman band is playing and the crowd is cheering and welcoming the team!

#3. and finally….CATCHING FIRE!

I save the best for the last. Last Wednesday, I, along with four other friends, went to watch the Hunger Games : Catching Fire. I had an amazing time! I won’t reveal anything else, since some of you still might not have been able to watch the movie. But it was awesome!

Oh, and on our way, we stopped at Yogurt Mountain and binged on the perfect late-night snack – yogurt and fruits!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend, and are anticipating the much-needed Thanksgiving Break.

Have a great thanksgiving, and may the odds be ever in your favor (pardon my Hunger Games obsession).
